Full Time Apprentice Groom Position
19/07/2017 A full time 18 month Apprentice Groom position is now available at Moats Way Equestrian in conjunction with Easton & Otley College. We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, flexible, trustworthy, friendly Apprentice willing to work as a team player, prepared to work in all weathers any day of the week. In return, we will help you, along with Easton & Otley College, to study towards the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Horse Care. The successful Apprentice will work with two other staff members to undertake general yard duties on a daily basis to ensure the yard runs smoothly each day and to provide the highest possible standard of care to the clients and horses on livery at Moats Way. Main duties will include all yard/stable jobs, general horse care, arena and pasture maintenance, and exercising horses. Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition, the Apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the Easton & Otley College, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may also be the occasional need to attend either the Easton or Otley campus for short training courses and tests. The Intermediate Apprenticeship covers a range of skills and related practices required to work in the equine industry, including Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care, Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care, Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths, as well as Employee Rights and Responsibilities, and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. There will also be the opportunity to study for further qualifications such as BHS exams, first aid, etc, and the possibility of an offer of a full time position at Moats Way once the apprenticeship has been successfully completed. The successful Apprentice will be expected to work a 5-day week from 8am to 5pm (40 hours) which will include some weekends and bank holidays; two half hour unpaid breaks for breakfast and lunch; holiday cover if needed. The weekly wage will be £180 per week.
